Hmpty017 - Amute - Black Diamond Blues
CD/Download
Release - 24.10.2011

EN: Amute, Jérome Deuson's musical alias, released its two first albums, both internationally acclaimed,  on canadian label Intr-Vision Records in 2004 and 2006. Jérome then decided to focus on the live aspect of his music, and began integrating other musicians to the compositions. Written and recorded as a full band, the album Infernal Heights For A Drama came out in 2009 via Still, Jérome's own imprint, founded in 2005. Flying away from minimalist folktronica, Amute embraced a sensual and powerful electro rock.

Now back as a solo act with his fourth album, Amute reveals a more experimental and melancholic side. Black Diamond Blues creates its own universe, where every element, acoustic or electronic, lives and blends in complex compositions, not far from the works of Tim Hecker or Christian Fennesz. Black Diamond Blues is a dense and very personal album, a story that never repeats itself, where melancholy sails on noisy, folk and electronica waters.

Hmpty016 - Zoft - Electrically Haunted
Release: 24.10.2011
CD/ Vinyl (November 2011)/ Download

EN: Brussels-based duet formed by drummer Damien Magnette and guitarist Nicolas Gitto, Zoft proposes a deviant and ludic take on rock, combining high energy and twisted rythm patterns. After extensive touring across Europe, Damien and Nicolas settled to record their first album, the aptly titled Electrically Haunted.
With this strikingly mature debut, Zoft enters the realm of unclassifiable bands. Influenced by the works of Steve Reich, Pierre Schaeffer or japanese outfit RUINS, the duet blends together mad rythms, chanted lyrics, repetitive motifs, abrupt guitar sounds and a jazzy feel that might recall ZU, Mike Patton's Fantômas or their label neighbours K-Branding.
On stage, the band is surrounded by sound sculptures and home-made instruments, making the audience part of a performance where the light show takes a special place in creating a warm and chaotic ambience, in perfect adequacy with the music.
Electrically Haunted was home-recorded by Mehdi Ayari in two weeks in the countryside, mixed by Yvan Hanon with Damien Magnette, and mastered by Frédéric Alstadt.

Cédric Stevens, a.k.a. Acid Kirk, is one of Belgian techno's pioneers. Since 1993, he has been DJing all through Europe's biggest clubs, sharings stages with many of the world's finest DJs. In 1997, increasingly obsessed with free jazz, psychedelic, experimental and avant-garde music, he co-founded Elf Cut Records, where he worked as A&R. At the same time, he started working on a new project, Syncopated Elevator Legacy (S.E.L.), where he could explore new musical territories.

S.E.L.'s studio work has been praised by many artists (Christian Fennesz, Vibracathedral Orchestra, My Cat Is An Alien), and some of its songs caught John Peel's ear, who played them on his BBC show.

In 2003, Cédric, Flash Bunny (Jean-Henri Rigo) and Naan (David Meunier) founded the  DRIFTING BEARS COLLECTIVE. South of no North, their epic psych-noise debut, was released in 2007 thanks to Le Bonheur, Brussels’ “multimedia grocer's”. Vinyl only, the album did well, and was highly praised by english magazine The Wire.

The trio shifted to quintet with the arrivals of Squeaky Lobster (Laurent Delforge) and Sun Papa* (Laurent Baudoux) and soon began working on a new album, with a radically different approach, much more professional and cohesive. The band changed its name to SOUTH OF NO NORTH to deliver a second album, Octopussies Liquor Store. This new record marks a big step forward, in the production as well as in the writing, more mature and daring, not afraid to extend one of the compositions to 35 minutes. Their love of psychedelic, free jazz and obscure forms of world music is still patent, but this new step sees them evolve radically, and add krautrock and experimental noise to the trip.

*Active for many years under the aliases, or as member of Sun Ok Papi Ko, Scratch Pet Land and Fan Club Orchestra. All three projects were released by german avant-garde label Sonig.
